Mississippi State makes third straight trip to CWS

Mississippi State is headed back to Omaha.

The Bulldogs clinched its third straight trip to the College World Series with an 11-7 win over Notre Dame in the decisive third game of the Starkville Regional on Monday night.

Overall, MSU is making its 12th trip to the CWS.

Right fielder Tanner Allen and catcher Logan Tanner combined for four hits and five RBIs in the win.

Right hander Landon Sims tied his season high with four innings in relief for his fourth win. He allowed two runs and three hits with four strikeouts.

Mississippi State set a three-game NCAA attendance record with 40,140 fans for the series.

MSU drew 14,385 on Saturday, 13,971 on Sunday, and 11,174 on Monday. The Saturday and Sunday crowds are the top two crowds in Super Regional history.

There was no drama in Starkville on Monday night.

Mississippi State took control of the game with a 6-run second inning. MSU sent 12 batters to the plate and scored the six runs on four hits and four walks.

Tanner broke the game open with a three-run homer to left center field. Centerfielder Rowdey Jordan had an RBI ground out. Allen added a sac fly. Third baseman Kamren James had an RBI single.

Four Notre Dame pitchers threw 49 pitches in the 40-plus minute inning.

Notre Dame made a late run and had the tying run in deck in the ninth inning.

Carter Putz had a two-run double in the fifth and Niko Kavadas blasted a 2-run homer, that went out of the stadium, off Sims in the seventh inning.

Kavadas rapped into a game-ending double play against Sims in the ninth.
