SEC baseball Sunday recap: LSU, Missouri get walk-off homers; Vols take Auburn series, more

Here's a recap of Sunday's five SEC baseball games.

Doughty walks off Georgia

Second baseman Cade Doughty hit a two-run home run off Georgia's Jaden Woods, giving LSU a 4-3, series-clinching win over Georgia in Baton Rouge on Sunday. Dylan Crews added a pair of solo homers for LSU (29-14, 12-9 SEC), which got three scoreless relief innings from Devin Fontenot.

Liam Sullivan started for Georgia and allowed two runs across 4 1/3 innings. Georgia's offense was able to turn four hits and one walk into three runs but Woods was unable to record an out in the ninth. 

Beck's homer helps Tennessee past Auburn

Jordan Beck broke a tie with a two-run home run in the eighth off Auburn ace Joseph Gonzalez, leading Tennessee to a 5-3 win over Auburn in Knoxville.

Trey Lipscomb added a home run for Tennessee, while Bobby Peirce hit one for Auburn (31-14, 12-9). 

Ben Joyce threw four shutout innings and struck out six for Tennessee, and was clocked at 105 miles per hour with one of those pitches. Tennessee starter Drew Beam gave up three runs in five innings. 

The Vols (40-4, 19-2) tied the 2000 South Carolina team as the fastest SEC team to 40 wins. 

Late-game heroics propel Missouri

Missouri shortstop Josh Day hit a ninth-inning home run as the Tigers walked off Mississippi State, 7-6, to clinch the series in Columbia. Ian Lohse closed with 2 2/3 scoreless, six-strikeout innings to get the win for Missouri. 

After two offensive, wind-aided performances to open the weekend, Game Three began in similar fashion as Mississippi State (25-20, 9-12) jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to two home runs. The Bulldogs got into the bullpen in the second inning but struggled to plate runs. The Missouri (24-17, 7-14) staff was able to throw up enough zeros while the offense battled back. 

Missouri's Ty Wilmsmeyer delivered the knockout blow to MSU starter Cade Smith by belting a three-run homer in the fifth. State was able to tie it up but not before Day blasted a walk-off HR to clinch the series for the Tigers. 

RJ Yeager, Kamren James and Hunter Hines all homered for the Bulldogs while Luke Mann also added a home run for Missouri.

Arkansas hold off Ole Miss to clinch series

Closer Brady Tygart finished with three scoreless innings as Arkansas held on to beat Ole Miss, 4-3, in Fayetteville to clinch the series. 

In what proved to be an eventful first half of the contest there were lead changes in the first, third, and fourth innings before Michael Turner’s two-run home run in the fifth put Arkansas (34-10, 14-7) in front for good. All runs came against starter pitchers Derek Diamond of Ole Miss (24-19, 7-14) and Jaxon Wiggins of Arkansas. 

Each bullpen tallied scoreless efforts, highlighted by Razorback freshman Tygart striking out five, including the final out of the game in a ninth-inning, bases-loaded jam.

Chris Lanzilli also homered for Arkansas, his sixth of the season. 

Kentucky tops Florida to take Game Three

Jacob Plastiak, Adam Thrasher and Adam Fogel all homered for Kentucky (24-20, 7-14), with the latter two each driving in two runs, as Kentucky won its only game of the series in an 8-1 fashion over Florida (25-18, 8-13) in Gainesville on Sunday.

Starter Sean Harney was brilliant for the Wildcats, allowing just one run with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Tyler Guilfoil struck out five of the seven hitters he faced to close the game. 

Florida's Ryan Slater started, but struck out just one and allowed four runs (all earned) in 3 1/3 innings.
