Dettmer pitches Aggies past Vandy
Texas A&M ace Nathan Dettmer continued his strong Southeastern Conference season, firing seven innings of one-run ball as the Aggies went to Nashville and beat Vanderbilt, 5-1, on Thursday evening at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores (28-12, 9-10 SEC) struggled to connect against Dettmer, who struck out seven and got 12 ground-ball outs while allowing just three hits and two walks. Vandy's lone run came when Enrique Bradfield Jr. walked in the first, stole second and advanced home on a pair of ground-ball outs. Jacob Palisch finished the night with two scoreless innings for the Aggies (26-14, 11-8).
Kole Kaler led off the game with a home run off Vandy's Chris McElvain. Kaler and Austin Bost both led A&M with two hits and one RBI.
Carolina hangs on to beat Alabama
South Carolina's Colin Burgess singled in the ninth to bring home Evan Stone with the winning run, as the Gamecocks toped Alabama, 6-5, at Founder's Park in Columbia, S.C.
Carolina's Andrew Eyster, Michael Braswell and Josiah Sightler all homered off Crimson Tide starter Garrett McMillan in the first three innings. McMillan allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Brett Thomas started for South Carolina (20-20, 7-12) and allowed just one run over four innings. Cade Austin finished for the Gamecocks and allowed two runs in three innings, though none were earned.
