Vols blast Rebels--again
Tennessee pounded out 17 hits, including six doubles, in a 10-3 rout of Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday night. Drew Gilbert and Trey Lipscomb each had two hits and three RBIs for the Vols (22-1, 5-0), who are the league's only unbeaten team in league play, as well as the only team to lose fewer than four games overall.
Georgia Southern transfer Chase Dollander was tremendous, firing 6 1/3 scoreless innings of 10-strikeout baseball for the Vols. Two of the Rebels' three runs were unearned, both unearned ones coming off flame-throwing Ben Joyce.
Ole Miss's Tim Elko drove in two runs for the Rebels (16-6, 2-3), whose starting pitching struggles continue. Starter Jack Doughtery gave up six runs (all earned) in 3 2/3 innings, while freshman reliever Hunter Elliott allowed four (three earned) in four innings.
Missouri evens series with Arkansas
Missouri's Josh Day had a key two-run double as part of his three-hit effort, as the Tigers (13-6, 1-4) downed Arkansas (17-4, 4-1) in Columbia, Mo., by a 7-5 score on Saturday. Ian Lohse threw 2 1/3 scoreless relief innings for the win.
Missouri out-hit Arkansas, 10-6, and scored three of its five runs off Arkansas starter Hagen Smith. Justin Colon and Nander De Dedas each had two hits for Missouri, while Cayden Wallace led the Razorbacks with three RBIs, two hits and a walk.
Gamecocks take series from Vanderbilt
South Carolina's Braylen Wimmer blasted his first two home runs of the season, leading the Gamecocks to an 8-6, come-from-behind win over Vanderbilt at Founder's Park in Columbia on Saturday.
Wimmer launched the first off Vandy starter Bryce Cunningham to pull the Gamecocks (12-11, 2-4) within 3-2, then, hit a three-run shot off Hunter Owen, who allowed four earned runs in one inning and took the loss.
Vanderbilt (19-4, 4-2) won the series, but lost the last two, with Saturday's defeat snapping an 18-game winning streak. Spencer Jones homered for Vandy, which out-hit the Gamecocks, 13-11, but left 13 men on and hit into two double plays.
Nine extra-base hits help LSU smack Florida
LSU (16-7, 2-3) exploded for four home runs and nine doubles, with Tre' Morgan, Dylan Crews, Brayden Jobert and Gavin Dugas accounting for the longballs in a 16-4 shellacking of Florida (17-6, 3-2) in Gainesville on Saturday. The Tigers scored six in the third and had seven in the ninth.
Ma'Khail Hilliard got the win with 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball, while Paul Gervase and Trent Viermeier combined to blank Florida from there.
Gator starter Brandon Sproat allowed six runs (five earned) in 2 1/3 innings of work, while former weekend starter Timmy Manning followed with two innings of a three-run effort (two were earned). Florida had just five hits, but two were homers by Deric Fabian and Sterlin Thompson.
Kentucky downs Georgia for first SEC win
Eight Kentucky hitters, led by Daniel Harris IV (who homered) drove in runs, as the Wildcats (16-8, 1-4) downed Georgia (18-5, 3-2) at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington on Saturday afternoon.
Kentucky starter Darren Williams allowed six runs in four innings, though none were earned. Josh McAllister and Ben Anderson each led the Bulldogs with three hits, with McAllister driving in two.
Georgia starter Garrett Brown (five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings) struggled, as did Luke Wagner (two innings, three earned runs).
Deja vu in Starkville, Bulldogs walk-off again
What started as a slow paced contest, only two runs in the first five innings, picked up late as the Bulldogs (15-9, 3-2) and Crimson Tide (13-11, 1-4) combined for 13 runs across the final four frames.
Alabama’s Andrew Pinckney blasted a solo HR in the seventh to put the tide up, as well as a double in part of a three-run ninth inning, giving the 'Tide a 7-4 lead. However, the Bulldog bats weren’t finished. The first three batters of the home half of the ninth knocked extra base hits, highlighted by Logan Tanner’s two-run home run to tie it. Later in the inning, later game substitute Tanner Leggett delivered the final blow, a walk-off single.
A&M evens series with walk-off win
For the second-straight day at Blue Bell Park, Auburn (16-7, 2-3) and Texas A&M (14-8, 3-2) needed extra innings to settle the contest. In Saturday’s thriller, it was A&M who ended up on top thanks to an 11th inning sac fly from leadoff man Kole Kaler.
Auburn scratched for 4 runs in the first two innings before Aggie starter Micah Dallas settled in striking out 10 and logging 7.0 innings and just the four runs, three of which were earned. The A&M bullpen added four scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits. Auburn starter Trace Bright turned in a serviceable five-inning start with just two runs, while Kason Howell had a three-hit day.
