LSU is back in familiar territory, but the journey wasn’t easy.

After losing their first NCAA Regional opener since 1985, the Tigers won four straight elimination games to win the 2021 Eugene Regional at PK Park.

The improbable run was capped by a 9-8 win over No. 14 national seed Oregon. The Tigers also defeated Central Connecticut State, Gonzaga and Oregon (twice) to earn the school’s 15th trip to the NCAA Super Regional. The 15 Super Regional appearances are second only to Florida State (17).

One week ago, LSU was sitting on the NCAA Tournament bubble after a 13-17 SEC record and first-round loss to Georgia in the SEC Tournament.

LSU crashed the party and now they head to Knoxville to take on No. 3 national seed Tennessee in the Super Regionals.

The Tigers were swept in the regular-season series by the Vols in Knoxville in March 26-28.

In a game that saw five lead changes, LSU scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overtake the Ducks on Monday.

LSU third baseman Cade Doughty scored the go-ahead run on a balk.

Left fielder Gavin Dugas, who had a phenomenal regional, belted two home runs (3 RBIs) in the win. Center fielder Drew Bianco added a 2-run homer.

LSU used six pitchers, including four freshmen, on the mound. In the end, ace Landon Marceaux worked the final 2 1/3 innings for the win.

Marceaux, who started the opener against Gonzaga on Friday, recorded the final out when Dylan Crews caught a fly ball in right to end the game.
