Alabama bounces back with 49-point win against Georgia

The Alabama Crimson Tide have proven all year long that they have one of the most high-scoring, powerful offenses in the country. After a rough showing in their previous outing against Tennessee, Alabama sought to bounce back in a loud way.

The Crimson Tide (23-4, 13-1 Southeastern Conference) hosted the Georgia Bulldogs (16-11, 6-8) in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday night. Alabama flourished on both sides of the ball as they cruised to a 108-59 victory.

This game seemed to be out of hand from the beginning as Nate Oats’ squad got out to a 24-8 lead in the first five minutes. The offensive surge continued throughout the entire game as 5 players ended in double figures.

Projected lottery pick Brandon Miller, had an efficient 21-point night, going 7-for-10 from the field and burying three from deep. With this, Miller became the fastest Alabama player to surpass 500 career points.

Now receiving more minutes each game is junior forward Nick Pringle. Pringle continued to be the explosive lob threat that he always is, as he scored a career-high 19 points off the bench and grabbed 12 boards on top of it.

Bringing up the backcourt for the Crimson Tide, Ohio transfer Mark Sears scored 17 points going 6-for-10 from the field, including five three-pointers. Sears combined with Miller for 38 points though neither played more than 21 minutes.

The Alabama offense was clicking on all cylinders as they scored their highest point total of the season, surpassing their 106-point spectacle against Louisiana State in January. The Crimson Tide shot an impressive 61.9% from the field and went 16-for-34 from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs never quite found their touch in shooting the ball. Georgia went 37.5% from the field and only made 4 of their 13 three-pointer attempts. The free throw line caused many problems for Mike White’s squad as they shot a poor 13-for-30 from the stripe.

Junior guard Justin Hill was a bright spot for the Bulldogs as he scored 17 points, going 6-for-11 from the field. However, he did not receive extra scoring help as the Bulldogs suffered their biggest point deficit loss of the season.

The Bulldogs continued their conference woes as they have now lost their eighth conference game of the season as well as going 1-8 on the road.

Offensive Powerhouse

The Crimson Tide have proven over and over again that they have one of the best offenses in the entire country as they average an impressive 82.5 total points per game. With stars such as Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney, offense is no problem at all for Alabama.

Obviously, the offense cannot only come from two players which is where the rest of Alabama’s deep roster comes into play. Junior guard Mark Sears has proven to be a sharpshooter from deep and often contributes multiple deep balls to keep his team going.

Still continuing to thrive off the bench, freshman guard Rylan Griffen remains a pivotal part of the Crimson Tide bench as he has scored double-digits in five of his last seven games. As Griffen gets more minutes and more usage, it is exciting to see what he is capable of when he has the ball.

Also receiving more minutes each game is junior forward Nick Pringle. Pringle is a consistent lob threat every single time he is on the floor, along with an ability to block almost every shot that goes up. Though he is not necessarily a big time scorer, he was able to score a career-high 19 points off the bench against the Bulldogs.

Rolling Tide

As the regular season grows closer and closer to the end, the Crimson Tide are continuing to roll again and again it seems like. Despite losing their first conference game to No. 10 Tennessee earlier in the week, Alabama looks to finish off the rest of the season with momentum going into the SEC tournament.

With a 49-point victory against Georgia, that might just be all Alabama needs to finish off their almost perfect season.

With four games remaining against South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, and Texas A&M, the Crimson Tide will look for the usual output from players such as Brandon Miller, Noah Clowney, and Mark Sears that have guided them the entire season.
