Nimari Burnett, a new member of the Alabama basketball team who transferred from Texas Tech, suffered a “serious knee injury” over the weekend, according to Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa Daily News.
Burnett is expected to be evaluated today. A healthy Burnett is expected to have a big impact on the Crimson Tide this year.
After losing James Rojas to an injury, Alabama could be down to only 11 players in what could be a tough out of conference schedule that includes games against Houston, Baylor, and Memphis.
Burnett plays guard and averaged five points for the Red Raiders last year. Burnett was a MacDonald’s All-American out of high school and was certainly poised to be a great player under Chris Beard at Texas Tech. But Beard's departure and Burnett's of playing time played a role in his decision to leave for Tuscaloosa.
The Crimson Tide were the SEC's regular-season champions under Oats last season, and have appeared in a number of preseason Top 25s for this season.
