College football expert Bill Connolly, whose SP+ rankings have become a staple for those interested in college football analytics, has released his win projections for each Southeastern Conference football team for 2021.
Surprisingly, it was Georgia--not Alabama--which Connolly projected for the most SEC wins. Connolly had the Bulldogs for 6.7, with the Crimson Tide close behind at 6.6. That's likely a function of the schedule: Georgia plays Arkansas and Auburn as its West opponents, while Alabama--which plays a full West slate, plus Florida and Tennessee--certainly has a tougher slate.
Those two teams, along with Texas A&M and Florida, are all projected to win at least nine games overall.
One other surprise came in the Volunteer State, where Connolly projected Tennessee for 3.5 SEC wins (and 6.9 overall), and Vanderbilt for 1.4. The Vols lost a ton to the transfer portal following a 3-7 season, while Vandy comes off its first winless season in school history. Both schools made offseason coaching changes.
Connolly places a 90% or greater probability on five teams to win at least six games overall, with Ole Miss being the fifth.
