Auburn football hasn't reached 85% vaccination rate

Auburn coach Bryan Harsin says the Tigers haven't reached the 85% threshold the SEC wants.

Auburn's football team has not reached the 85% Covid-19 vaccination rate that the Southeastern Conference has set as a target, coach Bryan Harsin said on Monday. 

According to a report by the Associated Press on Wednesday, Harsin declined to name a team vaccination rate. Harsin said in July that about 60% of the team had been vaccinated and specified that the number had gone up since.

“Let me be clear: I am not anti-vaccine, and any narrative along those lines is misinformed,” Harsin said on a Zoom call with reporters. “I fully support the choice for anyone to vaccinate."

This summer, the SEC announced that teams below an 85% rate would be required to conduct regular Covid-19 tests and quarantine players who test positive.

The league has also stated that unlike last year,it won't re-schedule games due to Covid-19 outbreaks.

Harsin is currently at home under quarantine after testing positive for the virus, but not showing symptoms. Assistant Jeff Schmedding has assumed in-person head coaching duties.

Auburn defensive coordinator Derek Mason recently came back after a bout with Covid, and spent part of the week encouraging others to get vaccinated.
