LSU and head coach Ed Orgeron announced yesterday that they would be parting ways after the 2021 season.

Orgeron is in his fifth full season with the Tigers after taking over as the interim coach four games into the 2016 season. Notably, he won the Fiesta Bowl in 2019 before winning the National Championship 12 months later after a 15-0 season led by #1 overall pick Joe Burrow.

The last two years have seen a decline as LSU is 9-8 since the National Championship game. Also, The Athletic reported that football had become a distraction as Orgeron spent much of his time talking to women both within the athletic department and outside of it, which may have played a role in the decision as Title IX investigations still hang over LSU’s head.

Orgeron's seat has been hot since the start of the season, but even the Tigers’ 49-42 win over Florida could not cool it down.

The job will undoubtedly attract much attention as LSU is the only school besides Alabama to win three or more championships since 2000. Athletic director Scott Woodward is known for big named hires; however, LSU has agreed to pay Orgeron’s buyout, which puts Woodward in an interesting position as he looks for the next Tigers’ head coach.
