Jacksonville cuts former Florida Gator Tim Tebow

The Jacksonville Jaguars have cut former Florida Gator star Tim Tebow, according to multiple sources.

Tebow was attempting a comeback as a tight end. The 34-year-old hasn't played an NFL regular-season game since 2012, but signed a one-year deal with Jacksonville in May.

Tebow won the Heisman Trophy at Florida in 2007, becoming the first sophomore to ever win that award. That came under coach Urban Meyer, who's now the coach of the Jaguars. 

But it was always going to be an uphill battle for Tebow, one of six tights ends on the roster when he signed in the spring, and there were some well-documented struggles with blocking in the position switch. 

Tebow was a first-round pick of the Denver Broncos at the same position in 2010, but a 47.9% career completion percentage derailed his NFL career. The Broncos traded him to the Jets before the 2012 season, which would be his last time to see regular-season NFL action.

Tebow had a minor-league baseball career with the New York Mets from 2016-20. Tebow has also spent several years as a game-day co-host on the SEC Network's SEC Nation show.
