John Emery declared academically ineligible

Ed Orgeron announced that John Emery will not be playing this season for academic reasons.

LSU’s second-leading rusher John Emery was officially suspended for the season after being declared academically ineligible. 

Emery will become the second LSU running back (joining Tre Bradford) fighting legal battles to join the Tigers backfield this season.

These events continue the spin of the revolving door at running back that has proved problematic for the Tigers since the departure of Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who broke the LSU record for running back receptions and rushed for over 1,400 yards two seasons ago.

Emery's lawyers are attempting to challenge the decision from the NCAA. 

Many LSU fans were curious why Emery had not been featured in either of the first two games and now, they have their answer. While Ed Orgeron had kept things quiet about Emery before yesterday, he announced in his weekly press conference that Emery had been suspended for the season. 

Emery, along with Tyrion Davis-Price, was expected to share carries. But now, it appears the Tigers will lean on Cory Kiner and Armoni Goodwin to spell Davis-Price in the backfield.

First-year coordinator Jake Peetz will either have to stick with the plan from the first two games or change his rotation up as Emery will not be the lifeline that many hoped he would be.
