Ed Orgeron says junior cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. is “very questionable” to play on Saturday when LSU will take on Mississippi State.
Stingley had injured his foot over the summer and played in a non-contact jersey over the last two weeks of the offseason before playing against UCLA. He played in all of the first three games before re-injuring his foot in practice this week.
The Tigers’ secondary famously struggled against Mike Leach’s famous air raid offense as they gave up 623 yards of passing and 44 points in last year’s game. LSU has since replaced its defensive coordinator as they brought in Daronte Jones to try and fix its defensive issues.
MSU quarterback Will Rogers has thrown for 1,454 yards in four games this year, though the Bulldogs have managed just a 2-2 record.
In better news, it looks as if the Tigers will get Jay Ward back from injury for Saturday’s game. Dwight McGlothern played his first game last week and will be available so if Stingley cannot go.
Stingley is a likely first-round NFL Draft pick, so we will see how willing he is to come back as the season moves on. Many players in the last few years have prioritized maintaining their draft position.
