Saturday’s Florida vs Missouri game is a crucial one for both teams. The Gators struggled with FCS program Samford last weekend in a 70-52 shootout. Samford led for much of the back and forth game until the Gators took control in the second half.
For Missouri, a win here would push the Tigers one game closer to bowl eligibility. A loss for Florida likely swirls rumors about the job security of coach Dan Mullen.
Florida is led by quarterback Emory Jones. The sophomore has played well this season and put up great numbers last week. In the pocket, Jones will have to expose the Tigers defense and make throws across the field to give the Gators a chance to extend drives.
Florida has to establish the ground game early. If Jones begins to struggle, the Gators’ tailbacks have to get going and pick up yards to find the end zone.
For Missouri, executing on big plays downfield via quarterback Connor Bazelak will be the key. Bazelak is a decent signal-caller that has a solid arm. If the Tigers can get behind the Gators’ second level of the defense, Missouri could make this an interesting game.
Florida's defensive front will be the key. The Gators had trouble last week getting pressure in the backfield against Samford for much of the game. The defensive line has to do a better job of getting off blocks and making quick tackles and find a way to pressure Bazelak and force rushed passes or earn sacks and tackles for loss.
Missouri’s defense needs to devise a game plan to pressure Jones in the pocket and force Florida fo run the ball to be effective and keep up in the game. Jones has been hurried in the pocket this season and has struggled when being pressured. If the Tigers can amount to that level, the defense could force enough three-and-outs to help seal a win.
