Week Five SEC football power rankings

Here's how we size up the league's 14 teams through four weekends of football.

Records are in parenthesis.

1. Alabama (4-0): The Crimson Tide had 606 yards of offense on 59 plays in a 63-14 romp over Southern Miss.

2. Georgia (4-0): ESPN's FPI and SP+ both have the Bulldogs as the country's top team. 

3. Florida (3-1): The Gators' running game--they got 7.1 yards per carry against Tennessee on Saturday--has been one of the league's more surprising stories so far. 

4. Ole Miss (3-0): The Rebels took the week off before this weekend's showdown with Alabama.

5. Arkansas (4-0): A stretch of four-straight games vs. ranked teams is off to a good start with the Texas A&M win. 

6. Texas A&M (3-1): Don't blame the defense--the Aggies allow just 9.25 points per game, and 4.4 per play.

7. LSU (3-1): Max Johnson's quietly thrown 15 touchdowns against just three picks.

8. Auburn (3-1): Saturday's game at LSU is a must-win, since the four games that follow (Georgia, at Arkansas, Ole Miss, at A&MM) are brutal.

9. Kentucky (4-0): A schedule that hasn't included a ranked team's been a saving grace, as the Wildcats have an FBS-worst minus-9 turnover margin.

10. Mississippi St. (2-2): The Bulldogs really spread the ball around: seven players have double-digit catches and at least 100 yards receiving.

11.  Tennessee (2-2): The Vols give up just 4.7 yards per play, but gain just 5.6; the health of Hendon Hooker is crucial here.

12. Missouri (3-1):  The Tigers rank 115th in total defense, and next to last (129th) against the run.

13. South Carolina (2-2): The Gamecocks have rushed 41 more times than they've thrown it, despite a 3.4-yard rushing average vs. 7.4 per pass attempt.

14. Vanderbilt (1-3): Of the nation's 130 FBS teams, Vandy ranks 123rd in total offense, 104th in total defense, 130th in sacks, tied for 125th in turnover margin and tied for 85th in penalties per game.
