Southeastern 14's SEC baseball preseason awards

(LSU Athletics)

Here are our Southeastern 14 preseason awards for the 2022 SEC baseball season.

Player of the Year

OF Dylan Crews, LSU

The LSU sophomore tallied an impressive stat line during his first season in Baton Rouge hitting .362 with 18 HR and 42 RBI. A consensus preseason All-American coming off of a summer with Team USA, he’s primed for another big year. With players often making their biggest strides between years one and two, Crews is the leader in the clubhouse for Player of the Year.

Pitcher of the Year

LHP Hunter Barco, Florida

The Gator southpaw is entering his 3rd season in Gainesville after a shortened freshman campaign in 2020 and a full sophomore season. In his lone full season, he notched a 10-3 record across 83 innings with a 4.01 ERA and a 94/26 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The mass departure of premium arms following 2021, coupled with a few preseason injuries to others, has Barco as the most proven starter in the league. In his second full season expect the lefty to make a jump and be in the mix for the top pitcher in 2022.

Freshman of the Year

1B Peyton Stovall, Arkansas

The prized freshman Hog out of Louisiana was ranked as the #29 prospect in by MLB.com in their 2021 draft rankings. Stovall elected to turn down the draft and head to Fayetteville where you can expect him in the everyday lineup for the duration of the season. While the signing classes seemingly get stronger and stronger with every year, Stovall seems to have the best odds to take home the Freshman honors.
