Alabama safety DeMarcco Hellams is out temporarily with an ankle injury, according to coach Nick Saban.

Hellams joins Kendall Randolph as key Alabama players who've sprained ankles this week.

“It will be day-to-day, but they will probably be out for a little while,” Saban said, when asked about both. “But we hope to get them back shortly.”

Hellams played 13 games last season, registering 66 tackles with three pass break-ups and 1.5 sacks.

Randolph, now classified as an offensive lineman on the team's website, started six games at tight end last season and also backed up Alex Leatherwood at left tackle.

Alabama topped the AP's preseason poll, which was released this week. The Crimson Tide open the season with Miami on Sept. 4.
