Georgia's rough offseason continued when coach Kirby Smart announced that defensive back Tykee Smith and tight end Darnell Washington suffered foot injuries in Tuesday's practice. Both were in competing for starting jobs in fall camp.

Washington, a five-star recruit out of high school according to Rivals, caught 10 passes for 166 yards last year.

Smith, a West Virginia transfer, earned several All-American honors in 2020.

“Darnell Washington and Tykee Smith sustained foot injuries during practice this week," Smart said. "They are both undergoing treatment and have an excellent prognosis. Their status is day to day.”

It's the latest in a slew of bad news for Georgia. Earlier in the week, Georgia announced that LSU wide receiver transfer Arik Gilbert was out indefinitely due to personal reasons.

Georgia's best receiver, George Pickens, tore his ACL in the spring, as did Dominick Blaylock, who's also expected to be in UGA's receiver rotation.

The Bulldogs open their season in Charlotte, N.C., against Clemson on Sept. 4. Clemson was third in the AP's preseason poll, released earlier in the week, while Georgia ranked fifth.
