Ed Orgeron said today on local Baton Rouge radio that junior quarterback Myles Brennan should be back around the open date (Oct. 30) ahead of the Tigers’ visit to Alabama.
Brennan was the starter at the beginning of last season when he threw for 1,143 yards in 3 games, posting a record of 1-2. After Han injury, LSU turned to freshman TJ Finley (whom it will see this weekend in their game against Auburn) before benching him in favor of Johnson.
Johnson and Brennan were expected to compete for the job this offseason, but an arm injury forced Brennan into surgery and eliminated him from the competition. Johnson has done nothing to lose the job, so it would seem unlikely that a switch would be made. However, this injury could stir the pot in the LSU quarterback room or provide a very capable back-up should Johnson be injured.
Orgeron will have more urgent responsibilities, but later in the year, it will be interesting to monitor how he decides to approach Brennan’s return. Sophomore Max Johnson has started the first four games for the Tigers where he threw for 1143 yards and 15 touchdowns.
